Driftwood Photography is a full
service photography business established by award-winning
photographer Carole Calkins Beckerer, a graduate
of the famous Hallmark Institute of Photography..
Born and raised
in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Carole graduated from Hartford
Hospital School of Nursing (Hartford, Connecticut) as
a registered nurse ...and then from Saint Joseph's College
(Windham, Maine) with a BS in Hospital Administration. During
her years in nursing, she became certified in Geriatrics
and worked as a Director of Nurses in Long Term Care. She
also became certified as an Advocate for children with
learning disabilities and volunteered for many years
with families in need of educational direction for their
children.
While raising her three children, Carole pursued her
interests in music, theorem painting and puppetry. It
was during a graduate course in Forensic Nursing, where
she was training in crime scene photography, that she
discovered that her interest in photography during her
lifetime had become more important to her. After
winning an award in children's photography, she retired
from nursing and enrolled in the famous Hallmark Institute
of Photography in Turners Falls, Massachusetts (the most
prestigious photography school on the East Coast).
Hallmark provided a two-year course compacted into ten months,
where Carole also developed an interest in commercial
photography as well as digital restoration. After completion,
Carole returned to the shoreline town of Milford, Connecticut
where she opened Driftwood Photography and
the Driftwood
Gallery.
